Today was a LO-O-ONG day! We drove a total of 8.5 hours! Fortunately, this is probably the longest we will ever drive in one day!
Nothing much happened today except that we drove through four states: Portland, Washington, Idaho, and Montana.
Ready to call it a day. But first we really wanted to share the vehicle God gifted us with.
A few weeks ago as we solidified plans for this road trip, Phil had spent hours on the phone calling various car rental companies scouting for the best possible deal. We ended up booking with Hertz but upon arriving in Portland we discovered that the “deal” they were offering wasn’t actually a good deal at all. Phil tried Enterprise and found that they were much cheaper. So we booked what we could afford--a standard-size sedan. We had both hoped for a van, but we decided we could make a sedan work too.
We had been praying for our trip and Phil had specifically been praying about our car situation. He told God this is what we can afford but a larger vehicle would be a huge help. The larger luggage space, the quieter interior during the hours of driving, and just overall comfort especially for the girls. If somehow God could make that work we would be thrilled, but if not, we will continue to move forward in obedience.
Phil called Enterprise the day before he planned on picking up the vehicle and discovered that they had no standard-size sedan available at the location we scheduled to pick up the car. The lady on the other end apologetically offered us a larger vehicle for no additional cost!!! The gas mileage will change but we were given a few gifts in the form of checks that could cover that difference.
Most of you won’t know this about Phil, but he is a little particular with his cars. He likes Toyotas especially. But he has a special affinity for Toyota 4Runners (he had owned one several years ago).
The next day when we arrived to pick up our car not only was it a larger vehicle, it was a TOYOTA 4RUNNER!
What a great gift this is! And what a special way our good God chose to send us off on this trip. We are so blessed. And may we be a blessing too, to each of those we meet along the way!
