We have gotten many interesting reactions to the road trip across the USA that we will be embarking upon tomorrow. The responses have ranged from, “Wow! That’s so exciting, what an adventure that will be!” to, “Oh wow…I can’t believe anyone would even think of doing that!”
Interestingly enough we deeply feel both.
We have completed our fourth year serving in Ecuador and this will be our fourth summer in a row where we spend the bulk of it support raising. For those who might be wondering, support raising is not synonymous to vacationing. It is a lot of work. And as if that was not hard enough, we are doing it this time in the form of a road trip. So, yes, we can very much relate to how seemingly insane this journey ahead is.
However, even before we were invited to join the pastoral staff at English Fellowship Church (EFC), and before we had known that this, in fact, would not be our first summer as missionaries where we would not be raising support, we had already considered visiting some dear friends and supporters whom we have not seen in years.
So, while we are terrified by this enormous trip, we are also really looking forward to the rich times we get to have visiting people we love so dearly but get to see so rarely. And even if the opportunity to be an encouragement and a blessing to those we will be seeing is all that comes out of this road trip, it would have been worth it!
